It doesn't matter if you want to watch the show or be in it, the Anchorage Classical Ballet Academy gives you the opportunity to see or be the entertainment. If you have always aspired to learn to dance classical ballet but never knew where to start, the Academy can point you in the right direction. Once the season gets underway, there are several productions that will be taking stage for you to enjoy, whether you are sitting in the audience or waiting in the wings for your cue.

One of the state's most popular events is the Great Alaska Beer and Barley Wine Festival, held every January. This year, the festival marks its 15 year anniversary, and it brings together not only the people who enjoy imbibing but also the people who create the beers, wines, and other assorted beverages. Demonstrations, lectures, exhibits, and of course, samples all make this event an extremely popular tradition.

Getting into nature's beauty is one thing, but being a part of its very real adventure is something that you can experience by braving the elements on a Nova Raft and Adventure Tour. Nova has been leading rafting trips since 1975, and that distinction makes them Alaska's most experienced wilderness guide company. And it really doesn't matter if you prefer to brave the unrelenting white water or choose instead to paddle along, Nova has a trip that's perfect for you. The daytrip packages are usually four or five hours, and some include glacier hikes. Special overnight excursions are also available.

Kincaid Park is an impressive 1,400-acre park that boasts over sixty kilometers of outdoor trails that wind through the hills and birch and spruce groves. This park is literally a skier's dream, as most of these trails are lit to accommodate night skiing. The park is also the host of many ski competitions, including the Olympic tryouts. There is also a visitors center that features historic photographs and other interesting items. In the summer, the trails are excellent for hiking and biking, and the small pond nearby is usually stocked with trout or salmon.
