Maintaining law and order anywhere is a big challenge, but consider how big the task becomes when your beat is a state as big as Alaska! The stories and the triumphs of that endeavor are what make the Alaska Law Enforcement Museum such an interesting place. The museum touts the fact that their mission is to preserve the history of law enforcement in the last frontier, and the exhibits do an above average job of allowing visitors to experience what that history was all about. Vintage patrol cars, communication devices, uniforms and more all help to tell this truly remarkable story of resilience and love for the law no matter what the circumstances.
The Anchorage Folk Festival is held every January and is an impressive showcase for local, regional and national talent. Folk songs often tell the tale of the triumph of the human spirit, and nearly everyone in Anchorage and the surrounding areas can relate to overcoming challenges to find a better way of life. In addition to performances on the main stage, there are also interesting workshops, dances and late night jams on the schedule of events.
The Alaska Railroad Corporation is a great starting point for your journey. Alaska Railroad is the most scenic way to enjoy the 500 miles that stretch from Seward to Fairbanks up north. Buy your tickets for pre-planned tours or maybe customize your trip through your travel agent. Either way, before you get on board, check out the historic photos and other attractions and artifacts that are on display in the Depot. And don't forget to get a look outside at an authentic totem pole and a locomotive built in 1907.
