Of all the traditions that are still honored in Alaska, the Yukon Quest Dog Sled Race is one that is as challenging as it is enduring. This is a 1,000 mile international trek that takes place “at the top of the world” in the Yukon and Alaska wilderness of northwestern North America. Held every February, the race runs its course starting from either Whitehorse, Yukon, or Fairbanks, Alaska. To say that undertaking this race is a test of skill and fortitude is an understatement. Despite the bitterly cold conditions, participants and spectators alike respectfully acknowledge Alaska's time-tested tradition of traveling by dog sled.

Every Saturday night all year round, the University of Alaska Good Time Swing Dance Club hosts a dance at the Silver Spur nightclub. The music begins at 6 and goes non-stop until 8:30. Surprisingly, the dances attract enthusiasts from every age group. So put on your dancing shoes and get ready to swing out to the Silver Spur!

This is an extensive network of creeks and rivers in east-central Alaska. Interestingly, 392 miles of the river have been given a National Wild and Scenic Recreational River designation. Boaters have many choices and routes available for recreational trips that, despite being different routes, all offer a chance to enjoy the area's breathtaking scenery.
