This trail was indeed blazed by those seeking equal voting rights as well as other civil rights issues. The trail was established by Congress in 1996 to commemorate the people, events and route of the 1965 Voting Rights march in Alabama. While you can drive the historic route from Selma to Montgomery, make sure you stop into the Selma Interpretive Center that offers a Martin Luther King, Jr. Street Walking Tour.
