There are several exhibits and attractions that underscore the vital role that Alabama played in the history of the United States.

The Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts is one of the oldest museums in the state of Alabama. With that distinction comes the facility's equally impressive collection of American paintings and sculpture. You'll also find an equally notable collection of Old Master prints, southern regional art, as well as several pieces of eye-catching decorative arts. There are also several traveling exhibits and attractions that add to the overall scope of the work that is presented here. Additionally, the museum is situated on beautiful grounds, adjacent to an inviting lake; so after you take in the fine artwork inside, enjoy some natural beauty during your visit, too.

These days, going to the movies for entertainment feels more like going to the mall with a bunch of teenagers. Thankfully, Montgomery's Capri Theatre offers you a chance to have a truly classic movie experience. This vintage theater dates back to 1941 and stood as the city's first neighborhood theater. It is located in historic Cloverdale and has the distinction of being Montgomery's only independent cinema. Foreign films, underground titles and the occasional classic are screened regularly.

There's art that was probably inspired by something miles away, and then there's the kind of art that speaks to you because it hits close to home. That is what the works of art stir up in the many patrons who frequent SAC's Gallery. This is a cooperative gallery that prominently features the work of local artists. Sac's is sponsored by the Society of Arts and Crafts of Montgomery. Founded in 1979, it is located in the city's historic Mulberry District.
