The All Souls Procession is a public ceremony in North America that began in 1990. It was created by a local artist mourning her father's passing. Over the years, the ceremony has grown, with more than 200,000 participants walking two miles through downtown Tucson. The event is not just about mourning loved ones who have passed away. It's also a celebration of life. The Urn is burned at the end of the procession and contains offerings, wishes, and hopes for those who have passed. The ceremony is a moving and powerful experience that brings together people from different cultures and art forms. Many artists prepare the event's installation art, performers, and various altars.
