The San Bernardino National Forest is like an unexpected natural haven in the midst of some intense urban activity. In the winter months, the resorts are full of activity thanks to the many skiers and snowboarders and the warmer months are equally as active, due to the mountain bikers and hikers who enjoy Rim Nordic's challenging terrain.

Get a taste of what life was like for the Franciscan Fathers back in 1819 when you visit the Asistencia Mission De San Gabriel. The site is commonly referred to as “Estancia,” as this Spanish mission was a beacon of hope and help to people of the area who were in need of food, water and spiritual comfort. This historic structure is now owned by the San Bernardino County Museum System and its continuous efforts allow visitors to take a fascinating look at what religious life was like alongside the San Bernardino Mountains in the 19th century. The mission has aged well, as many couples choose to get married in the meticulously maintained church that is complemented by its impressively landscaped grounds.

Roll with it in a good way when you take the kids to enjoy the rollicking fun of skateboarding at Blair Skatepark. Of course it's always safety first at this popular attraction, but fun is a close second as the park is open seven days a week. Kids who are under 13 skate in a supervised area, and all skaters, no matter their age, must wear helmets. There is a concession and sitting area where mom and dad can relax while the kids get their share of concrete surfing.
