The San Francisco 49ers are part of the National Football League (NFL) and have the distinction of being the city's longest-tenured professional sports franchise. The team first hit the gridiron in 1946. They moved into Candlestick Park as their home stadium in 1971 and won five Superbowl titles in the 1980s and 1990s. The team has also produced its share of star players that include Joe Montana, Steve Young, and Jerry Rice.

Golden Gate Park is nearly as iconic as the bridge it is named for. This incredibly beautiful swath of land is lush, inviting and peaceful. There are many traditions to be celebrated in San Francisco. One of the most iconic is taking a ride on the city's cable cars. They were first put into use in 1873 as a means of offering transportation for citizens who needed a respite from walking up the steep hills in the city. The fact that the cable cars operate in exactly the same way (they grip underground loops of steel to move forward) says quite a lot about this mode of transportation that has survived over one hundred years and is now almost always associated with the city of San Francisco.
