William Smith was an Aurora pioneer who went from raising sheep on his humble property to eventually founding Aurora's Public Schools and donating the land for Del Mar Park. See where this prominent Aurora figure lived by visiting the William Smith House that was built in 1910 and named a landmark in 1986. The home remained in the family until 1983 when Smith's daughter Margaret, passed away. The house is now a privately owned residence, but you can still stroll by and snap photos from the sidewalk.

The Denver Zoo has a pedigree almost as impressive as those of the animals it houses. Established in 1896, the facility is by far the city's most popular attraction as it welcomes over one million visitors every year. You'll find over 4,000 animals here that represent 700 species. See leopards, king cobras, black rhinos, coral reef fish, elephants, zebras, vampire bats, gorillas and much more. The kids will also enjoy the petting areas and highly informative special exhibits scattered throughout this highly entertaining venue.

Take a walk through the passageways and dirt roads that make up the DeLaney Farm Historic District to get an idea of how significant the tradition of farming has been throughout our nation's history. Although this parcel of land was named a landmark in 1997, you will feel like you've gone back several years when you see the meticulously restored buildings on the farm, including Gully Homestead House. This farm was originally home of the DeLaney family who raised horses, dairy cattle and other livestock.

The Aurora Reservoir Loop is one of the area's most naturally beautiful spots and a main attraction for those looking for outdoor fun. Enjoy a brisk hike in the crisp Colorado air when you make your way on the trail that surrounds the waters of the Aurora Reservoir. This trail is long enough for a moderately challenging but no less enjoyable day hike as you will travel along the winding path that circles the water and even reaches into the marshlands. Also, anglers find the area a favorite for fishing and the large beach area attracts many visitors who are out for some fun in the sun.
