Noah Webster grew up in Hartford, and his contribution to American history is immeasurable. His surname graced the first dictionary, and his authorship of the first American edition of the dictionary is just one of the many fascinating aspects of visiting his historic home. Boating and water recreation enthusiasts enjoy their time on the water when they light out on the Farmington River. The river is easily accessible from the road starting below Goodwin Dam in Heartland, Connecticut. Boaters enjoy seasonal excursions, with the best being in the late spring and early summer.

Hartford's Riverside Park is a popular outdoor spot that offers a little something for everyone. There's a boat launch, docking, volleyball, picnicking, and playgrounds. If you are feeling a little more adventurous, there’s also mountain bike and nature trails as well as fishing and athletic fields that always feature something fun and interesting to do and see. This park is also the home of the Greater Hartford Jaycees Community Boat House. Also, the park features various sculptures and other eye-catching attractions that make spending time here something truly special.
