When you think of the skyline in our nation's capital city, immediately the Washington Monument comes to mind. This 555-foot obelisk juts out into the sky to stand as a tribute to our first President. The monument, along with the Capitol Building and the Lincoln Memorial, is part of the areas trio of must-see landmark attractions. It is located at the western end of the Mall and the free elevator ride will take you to the top floor for a truly breathtaking view. The admission is free, but you need a ticket to enter. The ticket kiosk is located at the base of the monument on 15th Street and opens at 8:30am. Tickets are given out on a first-come, first-served basis.

Take the plunge just a few minutes away from the heart of downtown Washington, DC by enjoying the various water sports and activities you can find at Theodore Roosevelt Island. Tackle the Potomac's Great Falls or enjoy some good exercise rowing a canoe or kayak. You can bring your own boat or rent one at Thompson Boat Center or Jack's Boathouse near the Georgetown Waterfront.

The Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History boasts the world's largest natural history collection that will inspire several "oohs' and "aahs" from visitors of all ages. Great Falls Park offers an excellent chance for nature lovers to not only experience the allure of the Potomac River, but to also get away from all the stress of the everyday grind and enjoy some truly serene moments in the great outdoors. The park is open from dawn until dusk and offers amazing views with plenty of chances to see wildlife like waterfowl. The park is situated 14 miles northwest of Washington, DC along the Potomac River in suburban Fairfax County, Virginia. The river's beauty winds through several types of natural scenery that makes for something truly captivating nearly everywhere you look.
