When the curtain rises and the conductor's baton goes up at the Capital City Symphony, you know that you are about to experience something truly special. This highly accomplished group of musicians work hard all year long to present the various concerts, entertainment, and presentations on their very busy calendar. Everyone from big fans of classical music to even casual admirers will gain a deeper appreciation for the works of such masters as Beethoven, Mahler and Rachmaninoff as they are brought to life through the instruments of the members of the Capital City Symphony.

When you think of the skyline in our nation's capital city, immediately the Washington Monument comes to mind. This 555-foot obelisk juts out into the sky to stand as a tribute to our first President. The monument, along with the Capitol Building and the Lincoln Memorial, is part of the areas trio of must-see landmark attractions. It is located at the western end of the Mall and the free elevator ride will take you to the top floor for a truly breathtaking view. The admission is free, but you need a ticket to enter. The ticket kiosk is located at the base of the monument on 15th Street and opens at 8:30am. Tickets are given out on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Virginia Wine Expo is the oldest celebration of its kind on the East Coast and is regularly attended by wine aficionados from all over the country. Sixty of the state's top wineries are on hand to display their wares, but this celebration goes far beyond just tasting some of the best wines from the various participants. There are also seminars, cooking demonstrations, live entertainment, gourmet food and an outdoor art and craft show. The event is held every September.

The Potomac River offers several fine opportunities for water sports and great aquatic fun. Enjoy a day of sailing and get a look at DC from a truly amazing vantage point. There are several marinas on the Southwest Waterfront, Old Town Alexandria, and Arlington that are great starting points for your time on the water. Lessons are available at the Washington Sailing Marina which is located just south of the Reagan National Airport.
