Theodore Roosevelt was one of our nation's most beloved Presidents, but he also was an avid outdoorsman and one of the first advocates of conservation. To honor his passion and concern for the outdoors, the Theodore Roosevelt Island Park was established to not only recognize the efforts of this very public figure, but to also provide a natural setting that Teddy himself would have been proud of. A statue of him with two fountains surrounded by columns rightfully acknowledges his efforts to preserve our natural resources. The park itself is 91 acres of natural beauty that is accessible by footbridge from the parking lot, off the north-bound land of the George Washington Memorial.

The Lincoln Theatre is a show in and of itself. The truly stunning layout and architecture is something to behold, and the venue hosts several entertainment events year round. Whether they are seminars, dance recitals, plays or musical concerts, the Lincoln Theatre proves to be a classic and memorable backdrop against which any performer will no doubt put forth the best performance possible.

The National Building Museum presents several fascinating exhibits that cover architecture, construction and engineering. And while several of the country's most famous structures are spotlighted, the actual museum building itself is an exhibit in its own right. This amazing venue features massive columns, a picturesque fountain and a highly decorated ceiling that reaches 15 stories upward. Several interactive exhibits are part of the many highlights, including temporary exhibits that focus on the development of ghettos, roads, factories, parks and more. If it was built, the chances are its story is within the walls of this incredible museum.

Take the plunge just a few minutes away from the heart of downtown Washington, DC by enjoying the various water sports and activities you can find at Theodore Roosevelt Island. Tackle the Potomac's Great Falls or enjoy some good exercise rowing a canoe or kayak. You can bring your own boat or rent one at Thompson Boat Center or Jack's Boathouse near the Georgetown Waterfront.
