Lake Jackson, or Jackson Lake as it is sometimes referred to, is one of the oldest reservoirs in Georgia. Located in southeast of Atlanta in a rural area, the lake is so expansive that it is situated within Jasper, Newton and Butts counties. On of the most stunning features of the lake is the Lloyd Shoals Dam that was built in 1910.

This very popular facility is the largest sports hall of fame in the country, and its vastly expansive collection of exhibits, memorabilia and vintage sports items has gained international attention. Among the many highlights, visitors can take part in various interactive exhibits that include a football goal, a NASCAR simulator and a basketball hoop. There's also the equally popular sports-based education exhibit section that spotlights how technology has had an indelible influence on the way sports is played and how it will likely effect its future.

Take advantage of the fact that your kids are naturally curious by giving them plenty to be curious about when you bring them to the Museum of Arts and Sciences in Macon. This impressive museum can be considered a type of window to the world with all of its educational and highly entertaining exhibits and attractions. The recently-added third floor brings even more exploratory fun, as it features an artist's garret, humanist's study, scientist's workshop and an enclosed animal habitat.

Nature lovers and history buffs will want to take a little time to visit the Rose Hill Cemetery. This is a highly impressive example of one of the area's 19th-century cemetery parks. Located a quick 6 miles from the center of the city, Rose Hill Cemetery offers visitors a chance to respectfully visit some of Macon's key figures as well as all of the men and women whose lives helped to shape this part of Georgia. Make sure to bring your camera as some of these headstones are visually stunning, and there are also many angels cast in stone that you will definitely want to take photos of.
