Surround yourself with the beauty and tranquility of nature when you visit the University of Michigan Matthaei Botanical Gardens. The outdoor gardens are open for free to the public, although the conservatory itself requires an admission fee. Outside, you can wander around over a dozen different gardens, including a rock garden and a labyrinth, as well as walk along five different nature trails. And there’s even more on the inside!

Presented by the Motor City Music Foundation, the Detroit Music Awards recognize and honor Detroit area musicians during a multi-genre award ceremony hosted at the Fillmore Detroit. Previous winners at this event include Eminem, Kid Rock, Bob Seger, Martha Reeves, Insane Clown Posse and many more.

Lace up your roller skates or rollerblades and head on over to the Northland Roller Rink, one of Detroit’s largest roller rinks, for a fun time. Skate during the public sessions to some of your favorite oldies as well as a few of the more current songs. Or, opt for a skating class or laser tag game.

See all the sights as you travel on the Detroit People Mover, an automated transit system that encircles 2.9 miles downtown. These driverless vehicles run on an elevated light-rail system and are an excellent way to get around the crowded Detroit streets. For only 75 cents, you can quickly get to your next destination or you can just ride the rails and take in the best views of the city!
