When frost is in the air, bundle up and head over to the Motown Winter Blast in Campus Martius Park. This festival features very, very cool events and fun activities for the whole family. Enjoy some free skating, walk through an elaborate Ice Garden, enjoy entertainment on two stages and warm up at some of the Comfort Zones.

Learn about an unforgettably tragic time in history at the Holocaust Memorial Center, America’s first museum devoted to the memory of the Holocaust. Opened in 1984, this museum displays maps, posters, photographs and artifacts outlining the culture and history of Jews in Europe before, during and after the Holocaust. The HMC is also dedicated to honoring those who, both in the past and today, have risked their own lives to help their fellow human beings.

Right beneath the Magic Stick, you’ll find the Garden Bowl. The oldest still-operating bowling alley in the country, this historical landmark is a blast to visit. Open until 2AM Monday through Sunday, the Garden Bowl offers an excellent alternative to the traditional bars. Enjoy drinks and the tunes from a jukebox as you show off your bowling skills.

Art aficionados will not want to miss a trip to the Detroit Institute of Arts, one of the most significant art collections in the country. This gigantic museum covers 658,000 square feet and features over 100 galleries filled with everything from ancient Egyptian artifacts to today’s top contemporary works.
