The Paint Creek Trail in Rochester, a Detroit suburb, offers guests a gorgeous landscape and a wonderfully paved recreation trail. Perfect for walking, running, biking, skating and anything in-between, this former railway bed was the first rail-to-trail project in the state. The 8-foot wide paved trail stretches for nine miles and has plenty of free parking nearby.

The nation’s first and only graduate repertory theater, the Hilberry Theatre gives its audience a unique theatrical experience. See a mixture of six classic and modern plays in the cozy yet stylish open-stage theater, performed by the specially selected company of 40-45 graduate students working with a team of professional staff.

Head over to Ferndale for a fun weekend at the DIY Street Fair. This 2-day, 3-night festival showcases local artists, crafters, businesses, organizations, musicians, restaurants, brewers and others who base their work on creativity and a “do-it-yourself” work ethic. Entrance is free, but bring some cash because you are sure to find something to purchase at the Marketplace, Record Shop, Beer Garden or Restaurant Row.
