Pay a visit to the Belle Isle Conservancy, the program responsible for the impeccable maintenance of the park ground from the closed Belle Isle Aquarium to the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory and other attractions. Thanks to BIBS staff and volunteers, the Conservatory, gardens and greenhouses in the sprawling Belle Isle Park are a delightful sight to behold.
The historic Redford Theatre has provided entertainment to Michiganders since 1928. This attractive albeit unusual suburban playhouse draws in thousands of visitors from all over the state during its classic movie showings. See some of the best films that range from original silent pictures to the legends of the 40s, 50s and 60s, and even some cult classics of the 90s as well as organ concerts before the showings.
Head over to Ferndale for a fun weekend at the DIY Street Fair. This 2-day, 3-night festival showcases local artists, crafters, businesses, organizations, musicians, restaurants, brewers and others who base their work on creativity and a “do-it-yourself” work ethic. Entrance is free, but bring some cash because you are sure to find something to purchase at the Marketplace, Record Shop, Beer Garden or Restaurant Row.
