This 2-day, 3-night festival showcases local artists, crafters, businesses, organizations, musicians, restaurants, brewers and others who base their work on creativity and a “do-it-yourself” work ethic. Entrance is free, but bring some cash because you are sure to find something to purchase at the Marketplace, Record Shop, Beer Garden or Restaurant Row.
The ornate Fox Theatre stands out as one of Detroit’s most spectacular performing arts centers. Originally built as a movie palace in 1928, this enormous theater underwent a redesign in the 1980s and reemerged in the public eye as the crown jewel in the Grand Circus Park Historic District. See everything from concerts to Broadway plays in this 5,048-seat entertainment venue.
Love basketball? Come by the Palace of Auburn Hills to see the Detroit Pistons rule the court. Treated like royalty by their loyal fans, this sports team has won three championships since joining the NBA in 1948, most recently in 2004, and has numerous conference and division titles under their belt. Wear a patriotic combination of red, white and blue to support this All-American team!
Pay a visit to the Belle Isle Conservancy, the program responsible for the impeccable maintenance of the park ground from the closed Belle Isle Aquarium to the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory and other attractions. Thanks to BIBS staff and volunteers, the Conservatory, gardens and greenhouses in the sprawling Belle Isle Park are a delightful sight to behold.
