Built and staffed by the NJ Youth Corps, the Jersey Explorer Children’s Museum allows children to “live” history and “play” science through a variety of excellent interactive exhibitions and attractions. In the heart of Newark’s IronBound district, you’ll find Krug’s Tavern. The 97-acre Stephen R. Gregg-Bayonne County Park is divided into an east and a west half by shrubby slope. The western half features several different playing fields (from ball fields to tennis courts), a paved track and a spray pool. The eastern half showcases a greater variety of observable plant life as well as lovely outdoor scenery along Newark Bay.
Hike along part of the Lenape Trail, a 34-mile trail extending from Newark’s Military Park to west of the Passaic River. This unique recreation trail links dozens of other parks, rail trails and historical landmarks throughout Essex County. One of the most popular sections includes the path in Brook Branch Park lined by gorgeous cherry blossom trees.
