Galena Creek Park is a favorite of nature lovers, and it doesn't matter if the weather is warm or cold. During the warmer months, the walking trails lead the way for outdoor exploration and open areas make it an ideal place to take the family or commune with the park's natural beauty. In the winter, cross-country skiing is the order of the day, and many ski buffs and snow bunnies make Galena Creek Park their home away from home.
Maybe hitting the river with a group of experienced rafters who know how to have a good time is more your style of rafting recreation. If that's the case, then get ready for a wild ride along either the American River or Truckee River thanks to the students at the University of Nevada's Campus Recreation Department. They are not only well-versed in riding the whitewater waves, but also in having an excellent time doing it.
The Nevada Museum of Art invites you to explore and learn while contributing to help preserve the tradition of art for many generations to come. With various contemporary and classic exhibits, the curators and professionals at the museum work hard to continue hosting a steady stream of compelling presentations. If a tour of the museum isn't enough, the NMA offers the chance to dig deeper and learn about the art and the artists it supports at its E.L. Concord Museum School.
The Cactus Creek Southwestern Steakhouse is worth the effort it takes to find it, although you might have passed it or may be close to it without even realizing it! The restaurant is in the Bonanza Casino just north of downtown, and both the casino and eatery are local favorites that tourists may not find right away. The steaks are plentiful slabs of beef, and the side dishes are just as delectable. Add in great service, no-hassle parking and a usually short wait for a table and you've found a real jewel of a restaurant.
