The Beaver Meadow Audubon Center was designed to offer Buffalo's many city-dwellers a great opportunity to get close to nature. This 324-acre wildlife sanctuary includes a forest, a field and wetland areas that are all just a short drive from downtown. In addition to the natural settings, the trail on site stretches for eight miles and the adjacent beach offers still yet another scene in which to absorb some natural beauty. Even during the winter, the center is still open as it offers more outdoor fun in the form of snowshoeing and cross country skiing.

Rev it up from behind the wheel of a fast-moving go-kart at Buffalo's Adventure Landing. This fun family-oriented destination features recreation like a go-kart track, a miniature golf course, a fun arcade and even a teddy bear factory. The Buffalo Museum of Science has an incredible number of stories to tell. But instead of presenting these accounts in a dry and uninteresting way, the exhibits and special presentations that can be found here bring it all to life in a way that makes learning about the area as fun as it is informative. The museum prides itself in its exhibits that span the various scientific fields, and the depth and breadth of their mission is accomplished quite well. Among the many highlights here are mummies and the biggest Kodiak bears in the world.
