The seaside aquarium is the oldest in the nation and is home to over 350 species, including animals like sharks, sea otters, penguins, sea turtles, sea lions, and octopuses. The Nicholas Roerich Museum is dedicated to the works of Russian-born artist, Nicholas Roerich. His work focused on nature scenes from the Himalayas and there are rumored to be thousands of Roerich paintings around the world. His paintings explore the "mythic origins, the natural beauty, and the spiritual strivings of humanity and of the world." The museum is home to between 100 and 200 of Roerich's paintings as well as a collection of archival materials. People from all around the world visit New York to see the work of Roerich.
