The Community Folk Art Gallery is unique for many reasons. While it strives to present the work of African-American artists as well as other under represented ethnic groups in Central New York, it also features a striking common thread among the pieces that are on display. That theme is one of constant struggle against seemingly insurmountable odds that was no doubt the inspiration for many of the art works that are collected here. It's a museum filled with a curious balance of drama and triumph that will prove to be great conversation-starters when you make this museum the site of your romantic date.

Aspiring film makers bring their unique creative visions to Syracuse as they clamor for the spotlight (and a place on the silver screen) at the Syracuse Film Festival. The event, held every October, strives to present the best in contemporary international films that offer the best artistic merit. The Syracuse Film Festival not only showcases the work of established and upcoming film makers from around the world, but it also maintains and enriches the artistic culture in Central New York.

In addition to being a venue filled with some truly compelling interactive exhibits, the Erie Canal Museum is filled with some deep history of the area. It all began back in the 1800's when “weigh lock” buildings were located along the length of the canal to determine the toll that boats would pay to pass through between Albany and Buffalo. This museum is located at the halfway point between the two, and it is even more dramatic as it is housed in an authentic National Register Landmark weigh lock building. In addition to the aforementioned exhibits and attractions, there are also several fascinating artifacts and audiovisual presentations that tell the story of the canal's hard-fought construction.
