The Matinee was started in Akron’s Highland Square historic area in the fall of 2006. It was opened by Mario Nemr (and pals), the long time resident DJ at Akron’s infamous alternative nightclub, Thursday's Lounge. The Matinee became an instant hit within the local Akron music scene.
