All-American Soap Box Derby
Akron is well known for its famous All-American Soap Box Derby, the most popular youth soapbox car racing program in the world. This amateur car race draws in hundreds of young competitors to the Derby Downs every year. The Matinée
The Matinee was started in Akron’s Highland Square historic area in the fall of 2006. It was opened by Mario Nemr (and pals), the long time resident DJ at Akron’s infamous alternative nightclub, Thursday's Lounge. The Matinee became an instant hit within the local Akron music scene. Local and national bands are attracted to its warm atmosphere, small stage, and a great sound system. In addition, an excellent beer and wine list made it a welcoming spot for just about any person who enjoys the nightlife.
