Did you know that the Tulsa Historical Society & Museum is home to eight exhibit galleries that showcase artifacts and archives from Tulsa's rich history? Established in 1963, the museum has an extensive collection of over 400,000 still photographs, books, maps, documents, textiles, architectural elements, building furnishings, and personal artifacts. Interestingly, from 1985 to 1998, the museum was located in the Thomas Gilcrease house on the Gilcrease Museum grounds. Later, in December of 1997, THSM purchased the historic Sam Travis Mansion, which was renovated and expanded to serve as the museum's new headquarters.

In the 1960s, 20-foot-tall fiberglass statues were considered the height of outdoor advertising. But while these giants became popular roadside attractions, many fell into disrepair or needed more time. Nowadays, you can still find some larger-than-life figures, like Buck Atom, the 21-foot-tall space cowboy at Buck Atom's Cosmic Curios on 66 in Tulsa's Meadow Gold District. This unique retailer offers a fun photo op with Buck Atom and a variety of Oklahoma gifts showcasing Route 66, Bigfoot, Tulsa, Will Rogers, the Blue Whale, and the Golden Driller. If you get hungry, you can grab some delicious food from the Tulsa Brisket Co. food truck parked on Buck's lot. And if you want to make your visit even more unique, you can stay overnight at Buck's Cosmic Crash Pad, an AirBnB behind the shop. So come on down and celebrate the magic of the Mother Road at Buck Atom's Cosmic Curios on 66.
