Drayton Hall is more than a house, in the same way that your relationship with your partner is more than a relationship. This historic structure is a dramatic symbol of survival. Having weathered everything from the American Revolution to the Civil War to the earthquake of 1886 to Hurricane Hugo, it's clear that this house symbolizes strength in the face of any adversity. The grounds represent one of the most historic, undisturbed landscapes in American history, as Drayton Hall is kept not in the way that we imagined it to be, but in the way that it really was over one hundred years ago. It's a dramatically appropriate destination for a romantic walk through the grounds, and if the two of you prefer, you can be a part of a group tour or take in any of the special presentations that are scheduled at various times.
If the heat is getting to be too much for you, cool off in style at Charleston's Splash Zone. This water attraction features both tube-style and open, 200-foot slides while also providing a children's Caribbean play area with slides, wheels and sprays that are more suited to the park's younger visitors. If you prefer to just lounge and enjoy the scenery, float along the 500-foot lazy river which offers some unexpected fun with sprays and a big waterfall along the wet and wild route.
The Capers Island hiking trail is an invigorating 5-mile recreation trail that is quite popular due to its natural, nearly untouched surroundings like live oak, magnolia, cedar and palmetto trees. You're also likely to encounter raccoons, snakes, and even alligators. There are no facilities on the island so bring everything you need for a brisk hike and other outdoor recreation.
