If the two of you are grappling with tight schedules, maybe a visit to the Historic Charleston Foundation will be like taking a romantic trip together back in time. Established in1947, this is a nonprofit organization that strives to preserve the historical, architectural and material culture that make up Charleston's heritage. The efforts of this organization help to continue to operate such visually and historically significant sites as the Aiken-Rhett House and the Nathaniel Russell House, as well as provide programs that highlight the area's history. You and your date will not only learn about some of Charleston's interesting past but also embrace the future tighter with renewed enthusiasm.

Drive just a few miles north of Charleston and you'll discover a great beach hideaway at Sullivan's Island Beach. You'll marvel at how inviting and clean the area is, and you'll waste no time kicking off your shoes to stroll hand in hand with your significant other. There are also plenty of historic homes that line the dunes, as well as Sullivan's Island Lighthouse that provide an excellent, unforgettable background for your time outdoors on the beach. If you get hungry, there are plenty of great authentic Lowcountry restaurants close by, so a great meal is not far away at all.

Every September, the Scottish Games and Highland Gathering takes place to celebrate all things Scottish and Celtic. The unmistakable sound of bagpipes as well as drumming and Highland dancing are a constant feature of the festivities. In addition to being able to sample some traditional cuisine, you'll be able to enjoy a Border Collie demonstration, Scottish fiddling, and children's games, too. In other words, this is a great time for the whole family!

The Charleston Stage Company lives up to the magnitude of its name, offering entertainment for the whole family. Founded in 1978 by playwright Julian Wiles, this venue is the state's largest professional theater company in operation and it resides in the city's equally impressive Dock Street Theatre. The quality of their productions is quite impressive as the performers and directors are not only seasoned professionals but also meticulous when it comes to honing their craft to the finest detail. Shows such as Chicago, Inga Binga and more are slated throughout the season, and special workshops and presentations for children are also slated at various times of the year.
