Even though the people in Amarillo like to throw a good party, they like to give back with equal enthusiasm. That's what the Center City Block Party is all about. Held every August, the event takes place in the downtown area of Amarillo. Music is definitely in the air, as five stages feature 25 bands throughout the seven hour event. Food vendors and attractions consistently attract large crowds, and the festival atmosphere not only keeps everyone in a great mood, it also helps to raise funds for Center City.

Immortalized in Bruce Springsteen's song of the same name, Amarillo's Cadillac Ranch is a visually arresting attraction that has real Cadillacs seemingly growing out of the Texas soil. Located just outside of town, 12 miles to the west on I-40, the site is the creation of Stanley Marsh 3, a land and broadcasting mogul and easily one of Amarillo's more powerful figures. Marsh's eccentricity and taste of the unusual, as well as his love for Cadillacs, fueled his ambition to create this memorable attraction and photo opportunity on the North Texas skyline.
