One of the oldest and still the biggest amusement park in the state, Six Flags Over Texas delivers just your dose of adrenaline. If you're a roller coaster junkie, you'll find plenty to ride all day. The amusement park opened in 1961, is located in Arlington, about 15 miles west of Dallas and boasts 13 coasters and the tallest roller coaster in the state of Texas. Six Flags Over Texas boasts a series of firsts that include: First Log Flume−El Aserradero, First Mine Train Roller Coaster−The Runaway Mine Train, First Roller Coaster with Consecutive Loops−Shock Wave, First Freefall Ride−Texas Cliffhanger (later renamed Wildcatter). The Six Flags oil derrick is the largest land-based derrick of its kind in any amusement park, or drilling site for that matter.
