Pelosi's Democratic Opponents Go Public, But Still Lack Challenger
11/19/2018 2:18pm

The Democrats organizing an effort to block Nancy Pelosi from retaking the House Speakers gavel have finally gone public. 12 House Democrats and 4 incoming freshmen have signed onto a letter promising to vote against Pelosi in Democrats internal caucus leadership vote, as well as on the House floor in January. Its a smaller amount of signatures than the letters organizers had indicated. The letter was initially supposed to be released last week. That number is growing, so were just going to keep at it, Ohio Rep. Tim Ryan said Wednesday, when asked when the letter would be posted. If the momentum keeps building like we see it is, then we may keep it open for a little while. No Democrat has stepped forward to directly challenge Pelosi for House speaker, so she remains the overwhelming favorite to win next weeks internal vote. The question is whether the anti-Pelosi Democrats can deny her the 218 votes she would need on the House floor in January. With a few races remaining

Do You Know The Right Way To Wash Your Hands? Watch This Video Aimed At Halting Ebola
11/19/2018 1:47pm

https://www.youtube.com/watchvHbExiHlNY8 The government of Democratic Republic of the Congo has released a new video in its fight to end the Ebola outbreak there. The message: To avoid contamination with the virus, it helps to wash your hands. Sounds simple. At least we thought so until we watched the video. The government is promoting a technique with six separate steps and thats not counting abundantly wetting your hands and lathering up. Is this a lesson we all need to learn To find out, NPR got in touch with Dr. Mark Gendreau, chief medical officer at Beverly and Addison Gilbert Hospitals in Beverly, Mass. and a keen promoter of hand-washing. This conversation has been lightly edited for length and clarity. Is this the most elaborate hand-washing procedure youve ever seen Well it is elaborate but its actually the right way Basically its a rehash of the World Health Organizations six-step method for hand-washing. A study related to health-care facilities found

Shouting 'Mexico First,' Hundreds In Tijuana March Against Migrant Caravan
11/19/2018 1:47pm

The message for the migrant caravan was clear from marchers on Sunday in Tijuana, Mexico: We dont want you here. We want the caravan to go, they are invading us, said Patricia Reyes, a 62-year-old protester, hiding from the sun under an umbrella. They should have come into Mexico correctly, legally, but they came in like animals. A few hundred Tijuanenses gathered in the citys high-end Rio area to protest the groups migrating from Central American countries. Demonstrators held signs reading No illegals, No to the invasion and Mexico First. Many wore the countrys red, white and green national soccer jersey and vigorously waved Mexican flags. The crowd often slipped into chants of Ti-jua-na and Me-xi-co They sang the national anthem several times. The march is a foreboding sign for the migrants who have formed caravans to cross Mexico in hopes of reaching the United States. Many, but not all, members of the caravan have come to Tijuana, which borders San Diego, Calif.,

The Presidential Turkey Pardon's Weird Roots Go Back To The Iran-Contra Scandal
11/19/2018 1:41pm

The president is going to pardon a turkey. Full stop. Insert joke. These things write themselves. But seriously, its happening again Tuesday the peculiar Washington tradition of a president pardoning a Thanksgiving turkey. Over the past 10 months, Melania and I have had the pleasure of welcoming many, many special visitors to the great White House, President Trump said during his first turkey-pardoning ceremony last year. Weve hosted dozens of incredible world leaders, members of Congress, and, along the way, a few very strange birds. But we have yet to receive any visitors quite like our magnificent guest of honor today Drumstick, Trump continued. Hi, Drumstick. Oh, Drumstick, I think, is going to be very happy. Hey-o But maybe the weirdest thing about the turkey-pardon tradition and there are a lot of weird things about it is its origins. They can be traced directly back to, of all things, the Iran-Contra scandal . Heres how, from a piece originally written by this

11/19/2018 1:35pm

After years of motorists blazing through a tiny village in Northern Italy, the areas mayor got fed up and installed speed cameras. And after just two weeks, Acqueticos cameras have caught more than 58,000 speeding incidents, according to Italian media. Thats a hefty number for a community of about 120 residents. The speed limit through Acquetico is 50 kph, or 31 mph, according to the Italian news agency ANSA . The highest speed clocked was 135 kph, or nearly 84 mph. According to the BBC , Italian media reported that the numbers suggested half of all cars travelling the route were speeding. Its really madness, considering that we have inhabitants who regularly move within the village and cross the road, Pieve di Teco Mayor Alessandro Alessandri told ANSA, according to a BBC translation. A highway runs through the center of Acquetico, according to Google Maps . We hope that these speed gauges can be an effective deterrent to motorists and that they can benefit the citizens of
