Bask in the sweet sounds of jazz music at the Houston International Jazz Festival, which makes its annual return by celebrating a remarkable run of music, artists, education, and history. The festival, benefitting Jazz Education, Inc., a nonprofit organization, starts the summer with live music and a host of musicians and bands worldwide. The focus of the festival always seeks to honor the legends, the music, and the standards of tradition, shaping young minds and educating them for the future.

Beat the heat at Six Flags Hurricane Harbor Splashtown, where you can enjoy fun-filled, pulse-pounding, and exhilarating thrill rides for all ages. Have you ever wondered what it feels like to be in the middle of a tornado? Take on the Tornado, one of the most popular attractions, which shoots riders down a 132-foot-long tunnel and blasts them into a giant funnel. Check out the Stingray Racer, where six waterslide lanes stand five stories tall, propelling riders down a twisting and turning track. The  Thunder Run, where the inline tube slide picks up speed at every twist and turn, and the many other attractions for the entire family.

Let your hair down and enjoy sand volleyball and pickleball at Bumpy Pickle, where you can enjoy five well-lit, regulation-size sand volleyball courts and nine pickleball courts. It’s a great place to unwind with friends and coworkers or even on an adventurous date. Bumpy Pickle offers a lip-smacking menu ranging from tacos to full-blown entrees. They even have something special for the kiddos. And you can bet they did not forget the sweet tooth, dessert-loving bunch.

Capture a moment in time at the Houston Center for Photography, where you'll find evolving exhibits by emerging and established photographers and plenty of spur-of-the-moment workshops to brush up on your photography skills. As a small visual artists organization, their gallery features some of the finest works of contemporary photography. They also offer over 300 photography classes and workshops year-round. Varying in competency levels, these classes are all taught by esteemed photographers and lecturers, including some of the masters of the medium.
