Theatre Under The Stars is nationally acclaimed for its world premiers and national tours. The company co-produced the pre-Broadway premiere of Beauty and the Beast in 1993 with the Walt Disney Company. Then, in 1995, Theatre Under The Stars launched the pre-Broadway national tour of Jekyll & Hyde, in partnership with the Alley Theatre and The 5th Avenue Theatre of Seattle.

Other premiers at Theatre Under The Stars include "Phantom," "Annie Warbucks," "Hot Shoe Shuffle," "Scrooge" and "Chaplin."

Initially, Theatre Under The Stars was literally defined by its name. The theater group originally performed at Miller Outdoor Theatre in Hermann Park, staging free live performances for the public.

Then in 1972, Theatre Under The Stars moved into the downtown Music Hall to produce six musicals each year.

Today, Theatre Under the Stars performs in the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts, a 2,650-seat theater with a fiber-optic ceiling that twinkles as the lights dim, harkening back to the theater troupe's "open-air" performances.
