The National Butterfly Center is a scenic destination that spans over 100 acres and is a prime location in the country for butterfly enthusiasts who want to get close to these beautiful insects. With over 300 species of butterflies thriving among some of the most lush plant life in the Rio Grande Valley, the Center offers a mesmerizing sight. The monarch butterfly is an iconic American species that has unfortunately decreased in numbers due to shrinking habitats, environmental toxins, and climate change. Public interest in conservation efforts to protect this species has increased, which is a positive development. However, it is essential to note that of the 456 butterfly species tracked by NABA, 320 have shown less positive trends than the monarch butterfly.

If you're looking for an exciting fishing competition in Texas, take advantage of the Texas International Fishing Tournament, the largest of its kind in the state. Head to the event with a full gas tank and cast your line to win some money in this offshore competition. The tournament has three divisions: bay, tarpon, and offshore, and it takes place on Port Isabel and South Padre Island, surrounded by the Laguna Madre Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. Anglers of all ages participate in the event, which attracts thousands of spectators. During the two-day competition, bay anglers will weigh their speckled trout, redfish, and flounder catches. At the same time, offshore fishermen will compete for the giant blue marlin, white marlin, and sailfish catches. If you're not up for fishing on a boat, you can still enjoy the action from the shore by hanging out at the docks.
