The Art Center Waco overlooks the Brazos River and is housed in a classic-styled Mediterranean residence. Inside, there is a stunning collection of sculpture, pottery, paintings and woodcarvings. The work is mainly the product of young, up-and-coming talent and new exhibits are added on a regular basis. The center also offers art classes for both children and adults. The Waco Cultural Arts Fest is an event designed to celebrate the diverse multicultural influences in the area through artistic expression like music, performance, food and various arts activities. The festival takes place at Indian Spring Park and features free admission, fine arts activities all day and a continuous open mic for aspiring performers. Held in the middle to latter part of September, the event draws visitors from all over the state, especially families with kids interested in art. These young festival-goers get a chance to create art in various forms during the three day event, and will come away from the festival with a deeper appreciation for the state's cultural and artistic influences.

There's history that reaches back, and then there's history that reaches way back. That's what you'll find at the Waco Mammoth Site. This is where you can step back in time 68,000 years ago when mammoths and saber-toothed cats roamed the land that would eventually become Texas. Paleontologists came to discover this mammoth heard which was discovered in 1978 and wasn't opened for public viewing until 2009. These Pleistocene mammoths represent the first and only discovery of a nursery herd of these creatures, so don't miss this dramatic and unforgettable peek into some real stone age stories.
