From an historic standpoint, the facility is significant because it is the first planetarium built by a public school system in the state of Virginia. Your visit isn't about looking at everything from the view of an outsider–you will actually get to do some work on this dairy farm as part of the fun! This farm was originally founded by Titus Bergey in 1931 and still offers fresh milk in bottles, butter and sweet homemade ice cream produced right on this charming farm.

The Virginia Zoo takes great pride in continuing the tradition of education, recreation and conservation. Located just a short drive from Chesapeake in Norfolk, this impressive facility houses such family favorites as elephants, giraffes, monkeys, lions, tigers and many more amazing creatures. There is always something special going on that is sure to please even the most discerning nature enthusiast, including special animal exhibits, safari-type tours, and various seasonal events.

Even though Fort Norfolk requires a little extra effort to visit if you are in Chesapeake, the short drive is well worth it if you are a fan of history. This fort is the last remaining structure of an original 19 forts that were built back in 1794 on the order of President George Washington. When you arrive you will be immediately struck by the fort's outward design, and once you step through the archway that leads to the interior, you will feel like you have traveled back in time. The staff members on hand will be happy to answer any of your questions. There is also an expansive 4-acre landscape that surrounds this historical site.
