Pocahontas State Park is located about 20 miles from downtown Richmond in Chesterfield County. It offers hiking, biking and bridle trails. You'll find five miles of hiking trails around Beaver Lake, a five mile bicycle trail as well as a recreation trail accessible to people with disabilities. Also, numerous trails are available to hikers and cyclists that wind through the surrounding woodlands. Additionally, there are approximately 10 miles of bridle trails. Mountain bikers will enjoy the single-track mountain bike trails that range from easy to expert levels.

The two of you feel like escaping, but don't really have the time to get away for long. Perhaps just getting off dry land will make you both feel like you've gotten away from it all. A fun way to do that is to hop aboard the Carrie B Showboat for an unforgettable romantic date. You'll travel on the Carrie B, a 19th century Mississippi Riverboat as you take in the sights of the Norfolk waterfront. You'll be both informed and entertained by the riverboat's captain as he points out areas of interest along the way.

If you're looking for someplace to enjoy a drink that's a little off the beaten path, then find your way to Cogans Pizza. Although the nightlife venue is small, it is packed with a large measure of individuality. There's cutting-edge music coming out of the speakers and the crowd is most definitely eclectic, too. A great place for a glass of wine or a mixed drink, it is also a prime spot for checking out the always colorful crowd. And speaking of color, don't miss the impressive selection of local art that covers the walls.

The Children's Museum of Virginia offers entertaining fun for all ages. While the focus of many of the exhibits and attractions are geared toward educating kids about the arts and sciences, bigger kids (including mom and dad) will no doubt enjoy experiencing the various activities that the venue offers. Some of the many highlights include interactive exhibits about paleontology, dental hygiene, nutrition, art, music, communications technology, sculpture and much more. For more interactive fun, the little ones will jump at the chance to get on board the kid-sized submarine, lobster boat and space shuttle. And even the smaller children won't be left out, as there is an excellent hands-on section for toddlers.
