Every August, Portsmouth celebrates the creation and impact of art with the popular Seawall Art Show. For over 30 years, this has proven to be one of the area's favorite events. Art lovers from all over the area gather in Portsmouth to enjoy the showcase of fine arts and crafts that both artists and artisans bring to the Portsmouth waterfront. The Portsmouth Fine Arts Commission and Portsmouth Museum are the main organizers of this show with proceeds going to support the continuation of various arts programs in Portsmouth.

When it's been one of those days, make plans to meet up with coworkers for a little happy hour happiness at P-Town Pub. This charmingly low-key nightlife venue caters to the after-work crowd as it features not only excellent drink specials, but also a great variety of munchies that will keep you happy well into the early evening. Fans of history will not want to miss the opportunity to visit the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Museum in Portsmouth. This is much more than a history lesson–this impressive facility houses an incredible collection of military artifacts, pictures, weapons and many historic ships including the CSS VIRGINIA (EX-MERRIMAC) as well as the world's first aircraft carrier, the LANGLEY.

The Lake Smith Reservoir in nearby Norfolk offers outdoor lovers an excellent chance to make a big splash! Lake Smith is an impressively large body of water that takes up nearly 193 acres, but offers safe aquatic fun as it is only five feet deep all the way around. In addition to fishing and sunbathing, anglers can enjoy catching some highly desirable largemouth bass.
