Continue the long tradition of the Wisconsin State Fair by joining in on the eleven-day festivities in West Allis, right outside of the Milwaukee city limits. Since 1851, this festival has drawn in vendors and citizens from all across the state. Yearly venues include regional and national bands, carnival rides, specialty vendors, agricultural exhibits and a variety of food and drink, including the popular cream puffs.
Visit the Boerner Botanical Gardens from late April to early November. The internationally renown horticultural center offers eleven specialty outdoor gardens, including the cutting edge Trial Garden which features newly developed plant varieties not publicly available anywhere else. Take a tour and admire the beautiful arrangement integration of architecture and sculptures among the plant life.
The former home of Captain Frederick Pabst, the world famous beer baron and founder of the Pabst Brewing Company, the Pabst Mansion is open year-round to provide guided tours about the legacy of Pabst, the history of brewing, the craftsmanship of the house and the history of Milwaukee. Stroll through and explore the well preserved and accurately restored neo-Renaissance museum house and its grounds.
Food lovers will want to stop by the Milwaukee Public Market. Choose from a variety of high-quality artisan and ethnic produce. Pick up some freshly prepared, ready-to-go foods, perfect for a quick and easy meal. Schedule some time to take a cooking class from local chefs or nationally known cookbook authors.
