The World Ice Art Championships take place in Fairbanks every March. The competition is held over the course of eleven very dramatic and excitement-filled days. The event attracts the best ice sculptors in the world as they display their considerable talents in various competitive classes. Among the many categories, two of the most popular are abstract and realistic ice sculptures. The public is invited to watch the sculptures being created during the first two weeks in March and then to view the finished work during the last two weeks of the month. The festival is held at Ice Alaska's Ice Park which not only features the competition but also offers a kids' park with rides and other attractions.

The lush surroundings, the sound of the water and the calming effect of the entire area is something that holds a timeless appeal. This river is a tributary of the Tanana River and runs approximately 150 miles long and welcomes boaters and fishermen as well as admirers of the river's natural amenities.

Every Saturday night all year round, the University of Alaska Good Time Swing Dance Club hosts a dance at the Silver Spur nightclub. The music begins at 6 and goes non-stop until 8:30. Surprisingly, the dances attract enthusiasts from every age group. So put on your dancing shoes and get ready to swing out to the Silver Spur!

Get a sharper glimpse of the future when you take a fascinating look back when you visit the Alaska Historical Society. This non-profit, volunteer-based organization's primary goal is to promote and preserve the various aspects of Alaska's history through the exchange of ideas and information as well as the education of the area's population about its heritage. There are various exhibits, attractions, and presentations held throughout the year.
