With the nearly constant chilly conditions in Fairbanks, skiing is a sport that is enjoyed by a significant segment of the population. One of the more popular skiing destinations that still retains a rather local charm is Moose Mountain. Skiers are taken to the top of the mountain on a ski bus and then get to the bottom by enjoying the quick but enjoyable ride on Moose Mountain's accessible but still challenging slopes. The mountain is also a favorite of snowboarders.

The World Ice Art Championships take place in Fairbanks every March. The competition is held over the course of eleven very dramatic and excitement-filled days. The event attracts the best ice sculptors in the world as they display their considerable talents in various competitive classes. Among the many categories, two of the most popular are abstract and realistic ice sculptures. The public is invited to watch the sculptures being created during the first two weeks in March and then to view the finished work during the last two weeks of the month. The festival is held at Ice Alaska's Ice Park which not only features the competition but also offers a kids' park with rides and other attractions.

Get a sharper glimpse of the future when you take a fascinating look back when you visit the Alaska Historical Society. This non-profit, volunteer-based organization's primary goal is to promote and preserve the various aspects of Alaska's history through the exchange of ideas and information as well as the education of the area's population about its heritage. There are various exhibits, attractions, and presentations held throughout the year.

Primarily considered a locals bar, Fairbanks' Midnite Mine is a place to go if you just want to enjoy a few beers with friends in a nightlife venue that doesn't feature a big party atmosphere. Everyone pretty much keeps to themselves, so if you are out with a group of friends but want to keep a low-key, less noticeable profile, then Midnite Mine is the perfect destination.
