Manwill Plumbing Heating & Air Conditioning - Salt Lake City, UT
Manwill Plumbing Heating and Air Conditioning has been taking care of the plumbing, heating, and air conditioning needs of Salt Lake City, Utah and beyond since 1920. Back in 1920, a young twenty-year-old Vearl J. Manwill loaded up a horse-drawn wagon with a load of pipes and a crate of carbide lights and headed out on his own, traveling from farmhouse to farmhouse, living with each family for days while he installed the “then modern” carbide lanterns and piping for the first indoor lighting. Vearl settled in Salt Lake City with his first garage in Salt Lake and in 1943 opened his first showroom. Since the bank would not loan money for only selling plumbing and heating goods, he had to open a complete hardware store that included appliances and jewelry. Vearl purchased one of the first black and white television sets and displayed it in his showroom window. After work Vearl would go home, eat dinner, then return to the office to turn the television off. The new invention attracted crowds of people around his business, which only helped to spread his name throughout town. As business kept improving, he eventually discontinued the appliances and displayed what he did best — plumbing and heating.
In the late 50s, Vearl’s son, James took over the business and expanded it to include forced air heating and air conditioning. In 1965, James moved the business to its present location, and through the building boom of the 70s contracted a large part of the new construction in the Salt Lake Valley. For many years, James’ wife, Lorina worked alongside him. When the mid 90s came around, Vearl’s grandson, Jim Manwill took over the business and his dedication to customer service, great products and employee training quickly grew the company to over forty-five employees. Jim’s attention to detail and his generous ways earned him many recognition awards by several manufacturers, Best of State, Super Service Awards and countless others. Jim’s wife Terry was an excellent business partner who spent countless hours and many late evenings at the office giving support, helping to develop new marketing strategies, and moving the business into the new “digital age.”
Brian Jackson, Jim’s nephew took over as general manager in 2018. Michelle Hortin, Jim’s long term assistant took over many management responsibilities as well. As a team, Brian and Michelle plan to continue concentrating on providing the best customer service with reliable products and clean, quality craftsmanship.
Believing in giving back to their community, Manwill Plumbing and Heating has donated to local organizations, foundations, schools, and supporting The Boys and Girls Club, Festival of Trees, Make-A-Wish Foundation, and many others in their area.
