NPR Identifies 4th Attacker In Civil Rights-Era Cold Case
06/17/2019 11:54pm

An NPR investigation has uncovered new evidence in a prominent unsolved murder case from the civil rights era, including the identity of an attacker who admitted his involvement but was never charged. The murder of Boston minister James Reeb in 1965 drew national attention at the time and spurred passage of the Voting Rights Act, which outlawed the Jim Crow voting practices that had disenfranchised millions of black Americans. The case remains officially unsolved. Three men charged in 1965 with attacking Reeb and two other ministers on a street corner in Selma, Ala., were acquitted by an all-white jury. But a four-year NPR investigation, led by Alabama-based reporters Chip Brantley and Andrew Beck Grace, found an eyewitness to the attack who has never spoken publicly about what she saw. She said the three men acquitted in the case Elmer Cook, William Stanley Hoggle and Namon ONeal Duck Hoggle were, in fact, the men who attacked Reeb. That witness, Frances Bowden, also described

06/17/2019 11:54pm

The Defense Department announced it is deploying 1,000 more U.S. troops to the Middle East for defensive purposes amid growing tensions with Iran. Acting U.S. Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan said Monday in a statement that the action, meant to address air, naval, and ground-based threats, comes after a request from the U.S. Central Command CENTCOM for additional forces. The Trump administration has blamed Iran for a series of attacks on oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman. The recent Iranian attacks validate the reliable, credible intelligence we have received on hostile behavior by Iranian forces and their proxy groups that threaten United States personnel and interests across the region, Shanahan said. The statement did not mention the type of personnel being deployed. Officials told NPR that the troops are primarily intelligence, reconnaissance and surveillance ISR force protection and engineers. The announcement is the latest in a series of deployments of additional

VIDEO PREMIERE: NYXE “PISCES MOON”

L.A.s Nyxe and director Lexie Alley made this intensely symbolic video thats directly plugged in to the fundamental forces of naturefire, water, light and darkness, of course. And it was even filmed on the night of that January lunar eclipse to add yet another source of power. Between Nyxes unsparing musical clarity check out the Spotifyography here and Alleys unwavering focus on her subject, Pisces Moon is almost more like watching a ritual than a simple music video. Or at least like watching some undiscovered Kenneth Anger project. The whole project was something of a reawakening or rebirth, too, says Nyxe:
