The Potomac River offers several fine opportunities for water sports and great aquatic fun. Enjoy a day of sailing and get a look at DC from a truly amazing vantage point. There are several marinas on the Southwest Waterfront, Old Town Alexandria, and Arlington that are great starting points for your time on the water. Lessons are available at the Washington Sailing Marina which is located just south of the Reagan National Airport.

As you walk through the Smithsonian American Art Museum, you'll be amazed at the extensive collection of iconic creations that adorn these meticulously arranged galleries. If either of you have a question about a particular piece, the staff prides itself in helping to answer your questions so that your time at the Smithsonian is as educational as it is entertaining.

The National Book Festival attracts both writers and readers of some of the world's best-loved books. Several award-winning authors head to the National Mall for this event every September to be on hand for autograph signing and seminar appearances. The kids will love meeting some of the characters from some of their favorite books as they come to life here and are available for photos.

Seize the opportunity to see our government in action with a visit to the Supreme Court of the United States. The Neoclassical architecture of the building is stunning, and the outer spectacle of the Court is just the beginning. While the court term runs from October through June, you can actually sit in on an actual Court session. Seating is limited, however, so plan to arrive early at the Front Plaza if you want a seat. When the Court is not sitting, you can still take in a lecture or presentation every hour on the half hour.
