Aside from the White House, the United States Capitol building is the most visited building in Washington. This incredible building with its regal dome and classic architecture symbolizes democracy to everyone who sees it. The view from the front steps is like nothing else, so make sure you have your camera with you. Tours are available at the kiosk on the southwest side of the Capitol, and are free of charge, on a first-come, first-served basis. Plan to get there early, as there are always plenty of people in line for this extremely popular attraction.

Theodore Roosevelt was one of our nation's most beloved Presidents, but he also was an avid outdoorsman and one of the first advocates of conservation. To honor his passion and concern for the outdoors, the Theodore Roosevelt Island Park was established to not only recognize the efforts of this very public figure, but to also provide a natural setting that Teddy himself would have been proud of. A statue of him with two fountains surrounded by columns rightfully acknowledges his efforts to preserve our natural resources. The park itself is 91 acres of natural beauty that is accessible by footbridge from the parking lot, off the north-bound land of the George Washington Memorial.

The shop features a far-reaching array of items that include everything from bumper stickers, election pins, T-shirts and political posters that literally span the entire century of political activity. There are even some items that date back to Abraham Lincoln's Presidential campaign! So, there's no excuse for not leaving Washington without some type of political souvenir from this interesting shop.
