In the local language, Kailua is a term that means “two seas” or “two currents”. This name is derived from the fact that the district is home to two lagoons or the two currents running through Kailua Bay. These features, however, are not the only natural wonders Kailua prides itself in. In fact, Kailua is not only home to the most pristine beaches in the island, but it also boasts of majestic mountains and calming greeneries and wetlands. Not only that, Kailua is also known for its beautiful history, culture, and people! Truly, if it is delightful island life that you seek, Kailua is your best bet in Oahu!

Kahilu Theatre began as the dream of a native Hawaiian, who wanted to create a theater that would inspire creativity and a passion for the arts among local residents and visitors. Built in 1979, the 490-seat theatre in the town of Waimea hosts stage performances throughout the year, as well as free community events, a youth concert series, meetings, lectures and other special events.  The gallery in the theater displays work of up-and-coming Hawaiian artists as well as established artists on the Big Island.
