The first section of the center, called Pearlridge Uptown, opened in 1972. An expansion in 1976 created Pearlridge Downtown. A watercress farm is located between the two centers, giving visitors a scenic view from above as they take the monorail back and forth.
Because the shopping complex is so large, Pearlidge Center provides plenty of choices for food or entertainment, including two food courts, 12 full-service restaurants, a miniature golf course, two arcades and 16 theaters.
