If you're in Wichita and want to bike around town, the best place to begin your recreation adventure is the Downtown Bikeway. This is a demonstration commuter bike way that extends one mile into the central business district and connects with a more scenic (and relaxing) Arkansas River Path at Seneca. Since Wichita is so far removed from any coast, local area lakes offer the most promising results for area anglers out for the big catch of the day. A great option is Harrison Lake, which is populated with bluegill, channel catfish and large mouth bass. This community lake is a nice little getaway and isn't overcrowded but offers good fishing and nice amenities like a sizable area to clean and pack away the fish you've caught.
O.J. Watson Park is a beautiful, expansive 119-acre park with a 40-acre fishing lake. The area was once a pit that has been meticulously landscaped and transformed into the lush, scenic area that welcomes visitors to enjoy some quality family time and recreation in the great outdoors. Boating, picnicking and playground areas are all available, and don't forget to bring your fishing gear, as the lake is stocked with plenty of catfish!
