You can find several monuments and attractions commemorating George Washington throughout the states of Maryland and Virginia. The Washington Monument State Park contains the first monument built for the first President. Built in 1827, this historic stone monument still stands proud near the summit of South Mountain´s Monument Knob.
Visit the iconic, star-shaped Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine. Best known for its role during the War of 1812, this fort is the one that inspired "The Star-Spangled Banner." During the first weekend of each May, spend four days watching top-notch film and video work from all over the world at the Maryland Film Festival. Hundreds of filmmakers attend the screenings of the approximately 50 feature films and 75 short films. Enjoy every type of film: narrative, documentary, animation, experimental, hybrid and others. You may possibly meet celebrity guests as well.
Listen to the lovely ladies of the Pride of Baltimore Chorus put on a performance of the highest possible level. This 110 member all-female, a cappella chorus has members from five different states, and serves as a chapter of the Sweet Adelines International, the world´s largest women´s singing organization.
